Total beneficieries: A total of 134 children were screened and provided with necessary dental care.
The Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College and Hospital, Mumbai, successfully organized and conducted an Oral Health Awareness, Screening and Treatment Camp on 09 January 2026 for school children at Vasant Oasis, Andheri East.
Rationale
Oral health is a fundamental component of overall health and well-being. In line with the World Oral Health Day theme, “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Life”, this camp emphasized the importance of maintaining good oral health as a key to a healthy and confident life.
School children are particularly vulnerable to dental diseases due to inadequate oral hygiene practices, frequent consumption of sugary foods, and lack of awareness. Early intervention through school-based programs plays a vital role in preventing oral diseases and promoting lifelong healthy habits.
Objectives
- To assess the oral health status of school children through screening
- To provide comprehensive basic dental treatment services
- To promote preventive oral healthcare practices
- To educate children on proper tooth-brushing techniques and oral hygiene
- To create awareness about the importance of regular dental check-ups and healthy dietary habits
- To sensitize children about the harmful effects of tobacco and promote tobacco-free lifestyles
Activities Conducted

Outcome & Impact
The camp significantly improved oral health awareness among children, reinforcing the message that good oral health contributes to overall well-being. Early detection and treatment helped in preventing progression of dental diseases, while preventive education encouraged the adoption of healthy oral hygiene practices.
The program successfully instilled the concept that “a happy mouth leads to a happy life”, promoting both oral and general health among the participants.
