GNIDSR, Kolkata - Rangoli Creation for World Oral Health Day 2026

Event

To commemorate World Oral Health Day 2026, Final Year BDS students from the Department of Public Health Dentistry at Guru Nanak Institute of Dental Sciences and Research (GNIDSR), Kolkata, created a large-scale Rangoli as a creative initiative to raise awareness about the importance of oral health.

The project was carried out under the guidance of our HOD, Prof. (Dr.) Santanu Sen Roy, and faculty of the Department of Public Health Dentistry, with active collaboration from Post-Graduate Training (PGT) students.

Design & Message
The Rangoli featured a large, smiling tooth at the centre, surrounded by dental aids like a toothbrush and the powerful core message: “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Life”. This simple yet impactful design beautifully linked oral health with overall well-being and was strategically placed in front of the OPD of the Oral Medicine and Radiology Department (Ground Floor) for maximum visibility and patient footfall. The artwork also paid tribute by being created in front of the portraits of Late Sardar Jodh Singh and Late Sardarni Satnam Kaur Ji, the visionary founders of the JIS Group whose legacy of educational excellence continues to guide the mission of GNIDSR.

Execution
On 20th March 2026 (World Oral Health Day), the students started early in the morning and worked together with great enthusiasm and teamwork. Using colourful Abir powders, they completed the vibrant Rangoli in a spirit of perfect cooperation, turning the hospital entrance into a colourful celebration of oral health.

Public Engagement
The creation process itself attracted huge attention. Many patients, visitors and especially children gathered around with immense curiosity and excitement. This natural engagement became an instant platform to discuss the importance of oral hygiene, preventive care, and the true meaning of World Oral Health Day.

Impact
The Rangoli created a positive and welcoming atmosphere in the waiting area and reached hundreds of patients and visitors on the day. It served as an excellent visual teaching aid for faculty and students to start conversations about oral health. The project also strengthened teamwork and camaraderie among the Final Year BDS students and PGTs, while highlighting how art can be a powerful tool for public health awareness.

Conclusion
This Rangoli initiative was a resounding success — creatively executed, widely appreciated, and highly effective in promoting the message that a happy mouth truly leads to a happy life. It perfectly showcased the spirit of World Oral Health Day 2026 at GNIDSR.
