Executive Summary

In commemoration of World Oral Health Day 2026, the Department of Public Health Dentistry, Government Dental College & Hospital (GDCH), Mumbai, launched a comprehensive, high-impact community outreach initiative titled “Three Months for Brighter Smiles and Healthier Lives.” Aligned with the global theme “A Happy Mouth is… A Happy Life,” the campaign was implemented over a three-month period (January–March 2026), aiming to strengthen preventive oral healthcare, enhance early disease detection, and promote sustained behavioural change across diverse population groups.

 

Through a well-structured, multi-dimensional approach, the campaign successfully delivered 52 community-based camps and executed 239 targeted activities, significantly contributing to improved oral health awareness and service accessibility across Mumbai.

2. Awareness & Behaviour Change Communication (130 Activities)

  • Health Education / BCC: 46 
  • Demonstrations: 42 
  • Dietary Counselling: 42 

These interventions played a critical role in fostering sustainable oral health practices and improving community knowledge.

 

3. Risk Reduction Strategies (15 Activities)

  • Tobacco Cessation Counselling: 15 

Targeted interventions addressing modifiable risk factors, particularly tobacco use, contributing to long-term disease prevention.

 

4. Community Engagement (19 Activities)

  • Oral Health Pledge: 17

Encouraged active participation, ownership, and reinforcement of healthy behaviours.

Focused initiatives enabled early identification of precancerous lesions and raised awareness regarding the harmful effects of tobacco, promoting early health-seeking behaviour.

 

School Oral Health Programs

Interactive sessions and live tooth-brushing demonstrations instilled correct oral hygiene practices among children, reinforcing lifelong healthy habits.

 

Outreach to Vulnerable Communities

Dedicated programs in urban slums and underserved populations ensured accessibility, supported by distribution of oral hygiene kits and educational materials.

 

Inclusive Oral Healthcare

Tailored interventions addressed the needs of special children and individuals with disabilities, promoting inclusivity in healthcare delivery.

 

Tobacco Cessation & Public Awareness
